Guidelines

As you use this site, there are certain guidelines to keep in mind.

First, remember that you can add, edit, and delete any prayer items on the site. This gives you a lot of power, and we ask that you be thoughtful before adding, editing, or deleting items.

We want this to be your site, a site that is useful for you and your church, your family, your community, and for your country. So make it what you want it to be, and add any number of prayer forums, and forums within forums, so that people will want to come and join in prayer for things that they care about.

Also remember that people from all over the world can view this site, so anything you put on here can be seen by anyone. Therefore, if you are putting up a prayer request for someone or some situation, please be careful about using people's real names if that might embarrass them or make information public that they don't want to be public. Even if someone asks you to pray for them, they may not want their name or situation to be readily identifiable as them to the general public.

One way you can handle this is to use something other than their real names when you describe the prayer request. You can also share the general need without giving details that might make it clear who the people are you are praying for.

If you are unsure of what to say, it is better to be careful than to be sorry that someone was embarrassed. In fact, if you see a prayer item posted on this site that you think would be better if it were changed, you have the ability to edit any post on this site and change the details. You also have the ability to delete any item that is posted on this site.

We are giving you, the user and prayer partner, a lot of power, because we want this to be a community-regulated site. We are hoping that it grows so large so fast that we would never be able to control everything that goes on here. So we ask you as part of the prayer community to help us regulate the content, and please edit or delete any content that you feel might not be appropriate for the general public to see.

An example of something inappropriate might be a prayer request for a family that is experiencing marriage difficulties, that gives the names and details in such a way that everyone who knows them knows exactly who it is. It might be better to change their names (God knows who it is anyway), and that way people can still pray for them, but without needlessly embarrassing them or giving away details that they would prefer not be known.

Another example where discretion is called for is in sharing prayer requests for missionaries. Missionaries often serve in places where they could be opposed by those who are hostile to the message of Christ. So if you are giving prayer requests for a missionary, it is always best to ask the missionary first what would be OK to put on a public website regarding their work. Again, if you do not use their names specifically, and in some cases you do not give the exact country of their work, then it could be OK. Just check with them first, and perahps you could tell them about this prayer web site and let them put their own prayer items on the site.

Just try to be thoughtful with what you put on this site, as it is viewable by anyone, anywhere in the world.
